* * *

Difficile rimanere indifferenti a queste parole.

Smells like History

Barack Obama Victory Speech
November 4th 2008
Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3

"Hello, Chicago.

"If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our Founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.

"It's the answer told by lines that stretched around schools and churches in numbers this nation has never seen, by people who waited three hours and four hours, many for the first time in their lives, because they believed that this time must be different, that their voices could be that difference.

"It's the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been just a collection of individuals or a collection of red states and blue states; we are and always will be the United States of America.

"It's the answer that led those who've been told for so long by so many to be cynical and fearful and doubtful about what we can achieve to put their hands on the arc of history and bend it once more toward the hope of a better day. It's been a long time coming, but tonight, because of what we did on this day, in this election, at this defining moment, change has come to America.

"A little bit earlier this evening, I received an extraordinarily gracious call from Senator McCain. Senator McCain fought long and hard in this campaign, and he's fought even longer and harder for the country that he loves. He has endured sacrifices for America that most of us cannot begin to imagine. We are better off for the service rendered by this brave and selfless leader. I congratulate him, I congratulate Governor Palin for all they've achieved, and I look forward to working with them to renew this nation's promise in the months ahead.

"I want to thank my partner in this journey, a man who campaigned from his heart and spoke for the men and women he grew up with on the streets of Scranton, and rode with on the train home to Delaware, the vice president-elect of the United States, Joe Biden.

"And I would not be standing here tonight without the unyielding support of my best friend for the last 16 years, the rock of our family, the love of my life, the nation's next first lady, Michelle Obama.

"Sasha and Malia, I love you both more than you can imagine, and you have earned the new puppy that's coming with us to the White House.

"And while she's no longer with us, I know my grandmother is watching, along with the family that made me who I am. I miss them tonight, and know that my debt to them is beyond measure.

"To my sister Maya, my sister Auma, all my other brothers and sisters, thank you so much for all the support that you've given to me. I am grateful to them.

"And to my campaign manager, David Plouffe, the unsung hero of this campaign who built the best political campaign I think in the history of the United States of America. To my chief strategist, David Axelrod, who has been a partner with me every step of the way, to the best campaign team ever assembled in the history of politics... you made this happen, and I am forever grateful for what you've sacrificed to get it done.

"But above all, I will never forget who this victory truly belongs to. It belongs to you. It belongs to you.

"I was never the likeliest candidate for this office. We didn't start with much money or many endorsements. Our campaign was not hatched in the halls of Washington; it began in the backyards of Des Moines and the living rooms of Concord and the front porches of Charleston. It was built by working men and women who dug into what little savings they had to give $5 and $10 and $20 to the cause. It grew strength from the young people who rejected the myth of their generation's apathy. Who left their homes and their families for jobs that offered little pay and less sleep. It drew strength from the not-so-young people who braved the bitter cold and scorching heat to knock on the doors of perfect strangers, and from the millions of Americans who volunteered and organized, and proved that more than two centuries later a government of the people, by the people and for the people has not perished from the Earth. This is your victory.

"Now, I know you didn't do this just to win an election, and I know you didn't do it for me. You did it because you understand the enormity of the task that lies ahead. For even as we celebrate tonight, we know the challenges that tomorrow will bring are the greatest of our lifetime: two wars, a planet in peril, the worst financial crisis in a century. Even as we stand here tonight, we know there are brave Americans waking up in the deserts of Iraq and the mountains of Afghanistan to risk their lives for us. There are mothers and fathers who will lie awake after their children fall asleep and wonder how they'll make the mortgage or pay their doctors' bills or save enough for their child's college education.

"There's new energy to harness, new jobs to be created, new schools to build, and threats to meet, alliances to repair.

"The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even in one term, but America, I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you: We as a people will get there.

"There will be setbacks and false starts. There are many who won't agree with every decision or policy I make as president, and we know the government can't solve every problem. But I will always be honest with you about the challenges we face. I will listen to you, especially when we disagree. And above all, I will ask you to join in the work of remaking this nation the only way it's been done in America for 221 years -- block by block, brick by brick, calloused hand by calloused hand.

"What began 21 months ago in the depths of winter cannot end on this autumn night. This victory alone is not the change we seek; it is only the chance for us to make that change.

"And that cannot happen if we go back to the way things were. It can't happen without you, without a new spirit of service, a new spirit of sacrifice. So let us summon a new spirit of patriotism, of responsibility where each of us resolves to pitch in and work harder and look after not only ourselves, but each other.

"Let us remember that if this financial crisis taught us anything, it's that we cannot have a thriving Wall Street while Main Street suffers. In this country, we rise or fall as one nation; as one people.

"Let's resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship and pettiness and immaturity that has poisoned our politics for so long. Let's remember that it was a man from this state who first carried the banner of the Republican Party to the White House -- a party founded on the values of self-reliance and individual liberty and national unity. Those are values we all share. And while the Democratic Party has won a great victory tonight, we do so with a measure of humility and determination to heal the divides that have held back our progress.

"As Lincoln said to a nation far more divided than ours, "We are not enemies, but friends -- though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection." And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn, I may not have won your vote tonight, but I hear your voices, I need your help, and I will be your president too.

"And to all those watching tonight from beyond our shores, from parliaments and palaces to those who are huddled around radios in the forgotten corners of the world, our stories are singular, but our destiny is shared, and a new dawn of American leadership is at hand.

"To those who would tear the world down: we will defeat you. To those who seek peace and security: we support you. And to all those who have wondered if America's beacon still burns as bright: tonight we proved once more that the true strength of our nation comes not from the might of our arms or the scale of our wealth, but from the enduring power of our ideals -- democracy, liberty, opportunity and unyielding hope.

"That's the true genius of America, that America can change. Our union can be perfected. And what we have already achieved gives us hope for what we can and must achieve tomorrow.

"This election had many firsts and many stories that will be told for generations. But one that's on my mind tonight's about a woman who cast her ballot in Atlanta. She is a lot like the millions of others who stood in line to make their voice heard in this election, except for one thing: Ann Nixon Cooper is 106 years old.

"She was born just a generation past slavery; a time when there were no cars on the road or planes in the sky; when someone like her couldn't vote for two reasons, because she was a woman and because of the color of her skin. And tonight, I think about all that she's seen throughout her century in America: the heartache and the hope, the struggle and the progress, the times we were told that we can't, and the people who pressed on with that American creed, yes we can.

"At a time when women's voices were silenced and their hopes dismissed, she lived to see them stand up and speak out and reach for the ballot. Yes we can.

"When there was despair in the Dust Bowl and depression across the land, she saw a nation conquer fear itself with a New Deal, new jobs, a new sense of common purpose. Yes we can.

"When the bombs fell on our harbor and tyranny threatened the world, she was there to witness a generation rise to greatness and a democracy was saved. Yes we can.

"She was there for the buses in Montgomery, the hoses in Birmingham, a bridge in Selma, and a preacher from Atlanta who told a people that "We shall overcome." Yes we can.

"A man touched down on the Moon, a wall came down in Berlin, a world was connected by our own science and imagination. And this year, in this election, she touched her finger to a screen and cast her vote, because after 106 years in America, through the best of times and the darkest of hours, she knows how America can change.

"America, we have come so far. We have seen so much. But there's so much more to do. So tonight let us ask ourselves, if our children should live to see the next century, if my daughters should be so lucky to live as long as Ann Nixon Cooper, what change will they see? What progress will we have made?

"This is our chance to answer that call. This is our moment. This is our time -- to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth that out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope; and where we are met with cynicism and doubt and those who tell us that we can't, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people: Yes, we can.

"Thank you. God bless you. And may God bless the United States of America."

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

"In my whole life, I have never met an African American.
Only Americans who happen to have a different color of the skin from mine."

Greg Stacy, Wheeler (MS)

True Heroes for Barack Obama

Just to make clear what I stand for.

Thanks to MarkPMitchell for the fabolous artwork.

Lost Mobisodes

In about 3 days the 4th season of Lost is starting back on ABC in the US (lucky Americans!) with 8 brand new episodes. The Writers Guild of America is throwing a strike against the producers in order to see their job a little more well paid, so we won't have a full season, but just these first ones.
<br Italia

Primo intervento su True Heroes interamente in italiano!

London - 05

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XgH7EZt3LFM/RwkNLz5DaxI/AAAAAAAAALo/6ueo1l9HRDs/s200/The+Globe+Theatre.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5118636948042509074" />Day 05: Monday 12, August 2007
The day we visit the Father of the British theatres.
The day we see what makes the time on Earth.
The day we feel the pride of the British navy.

The "Hostel Trio" got up early in the morning ready to go visit the Globe Theatre, the one wanted by William Shakespeare in the 16th century in order to play his dramas in a peculiar place, where the fourth wall is weaker than usual. It's been more interesting than what I had expected, and it made me and Beppe want to come back to see a play - even if I'm not sure of what I'd understand from a Shakespeare's work.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XgH7EZt3LFM/Rwk5wj5DayI/AAAAAAAAALw/0-fcQdZGEpg/s320/Greenwich+Observatory.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5118685957914323746" />The Royal Observatory is situated on a hill in Greenwich Park. It is famous for the Meridian line that serves to calculate the universal time on Earth - in Italy is +1 hour. In the inside, for the visitors, there are several exhibitions about the history of the Big Bang and the clocks used by men from the Ancient Ages till today.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XgH7EZt3LFM/Rwn4gD5DazI/AAAAAAAAAL4/IXDe2v3uiEg/s320/National+Maritime+Museum.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5118895681167387442" />Right in front of the Observatory, behind the Queen's House, there is the National Maritime Museum, where you can see models of the glorious British Navy, some real ancient and modern ships, an engine and some games for kids, including a simulator that allows you to drive your own boat on the Thames. Somewhere around in the neighborood there was the Cutty Sark, a clipper-ship of the 19th century that was open to the public till last May, when it got damaged in a fire, and it won't open until 2009, when the restoration should be over.
We had also in program to visit the Tate Britain, but just like the other day it was too late already.

London - 04

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XgH7EZt3LFM/Rwe_mj5DatI/AAAAAAAAALI/V-6yptq-6Us/s200/Portobello+Road.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5118270170720332498" />Day 04: Sunday 11, August 2007
The day we find out that it can gets hot in London, and that their flea markets are too much similar to ours.
The day we start visiting art museums.

Our day began with a short visit to Portobello Road, where the most famous British flea market takes place every Sunday morning. It's been the hottest day we had during our vacation, and due to the weather, the crowd and the profumes in the air it reminded me the streets of some southern Italian city close to the seaside.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XgH7EZt3LFM/RwiPAT5DauI/AAAAAAAAALQ/eoJuvNVDUbA/s320/The+Tate+Modern.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5118498212008913634" />Our program was to go see the Globe Theatre in the early afternoon, but we didn't get the time right, so we went to the Tate Modern earlier than what scheduled. The building's a lot bigger than what it looks from the outside, and it is full of artworks from the middle 19th century till today. There were also the exhibitions Global Cities and Dalì.
While I found some paintigs and sculpture enjoiable, toward the most of them I still feel the same perplexities I had at the MoMA in NYC... What is the difference between an artist and a monkey with a brush? What does it get to say "Yes, that's art" instead of "Dude, what a piece of junk"? It is something that a London lover shouldn't miss: the tour starts from the side but it takes to one of the biggest salons and the main rooms, with a rich exposition of artworks which come from all over the world, inclduing the many British colonies and pieces from Italian artists like Michelangelo, Raffaello and Canova. I found especially interesting the lunchroom with the collection of Albert's clocks and the corridor with the exposition about the wedding of Elizabeth and Philip. The ticket includes also the Queen's Gallery, with a different exhibition every year - this time it was dedicated to the Italian Collection of the Queen, what a coincidence - and the Royal Mews, the place where the chariots and the cars of the Royal family are kept. Too bad you ain't allowed to get pictures in the inside and that you can actually see only one third of it, because the rest of the palace is still inhabitated by the Royals, or it is used by offices.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XgH7EZt3LFM/RwekqD5DarI/AAAAAAAAAK4/4LDkAjPQSvk/s320/The+British+Museum.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5118240544035924658" />In the late afternoon we decided to complete our day with what should have been a short visit to the British Museum, but we weren't expecting Davide's love for antiquities, so it took a little longer. The Rosetta Stone's still at her place and so is everything else - but I'd like to bring to your attention the notorius Crystal Skull, which is half-hidden in a big room together with some weird Japanese costumes. It'll be the main source of problems for Indiana Jones in the 2008 movie, so... go see it! It was a lovely sunny day, and the square was crowded with people from all over the world. The New Guard arrived from the Wellington Barracks while the Corp of Drums formed a circle to play music. The whole thing didn't take too much time, and when it was over we decided to move on with our trip, which previewed a visit of the four biggest parks of London.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XgH7EZt3LFM/RuNSPTeQPQI/AAAAAAAAAJc/iT7OgfGwFm8/s320/01_Buckingham+Palace.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108016825246956802" />
We walked through Green and St James's Park, which are closest to Buckingham Palace, and we had a view of Downing Street too, where some works were going on. On the way to the other two we took a look of Trafalgar Square and Piccadilly Circus, where we would have come back later during the vacation.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XgH7EZt3LFM/RuNUXTeQPRI/AAAAAAAAAJk/U0o22cX9ibU/s320/06_Sloath+Bear+at+the+London+Zoo.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108019161709165842" />We wanted to eat cheap and quickly, so we decided to have lunch for the first of many times in a Pizza Hut restaurant.

The rest of the afternoon got away at the London Zoo inside Regent's Park, where we saw bears, snakes, monkeys, owls, tigers, insects, gorillas and ostriches.

The only thing that was left for the day was Hyde Park, where we rented a boat and used it in the Serpentine, the long lake inside the park, which was a lot of fun.

We finally had dinner at Yo!Sushi, a Japanese resturant with tapisroulants and colored dishes. Such Fellowship was composed by: me, my friends and classmates Beppe and Davide, and two brothers from Cremona, Giulio and Pietro, also known as "The Dukes".

The travel to the airport went smoothly, besides some complaints from our driver and her dreams about Trentino, which became epic.

Nothing else to talk about... we played poker in the airport hall waiting for our flight and then reached the UK and then we get to our hostel thank to a sex bomb from Kosovo who forgot to give me her cell phone number and then we slept 'cause we were tired.

True Heores - What about 'em?

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XgH7EZt3LFM/RplIG-Sw-XI/AAAAAAAAAI8/pgxQrwUkNrk/s200/True+Heroes+campaign.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5087176538729806194" />For the first time in the history of this blog, I'm not writing about something that happened in the past, but about what I'm thinking right now.

One day an ol' friend of mine said: "I hate blogs, I don't really give a s*** about someone else's life! Why should I read 'em?".

So, what's special about TH?
TH was born about a year ago as my first active adventure with the Internet, and a portal through which I would have told to my friends about my experience in the US uploading photos and stuffs once in a while. I would have liked to do it much more often than what I actually did, but I think the results have been still good.
There's also the intention to keep me practising a little by writing exclusevly in English (besides comments, sometimes).
It is also a gate to whatever I like and I suggest you. On the left you can see the links which bring you to other blogs or websites about everything. There are funny websites, shopping websites, useful websites, websites about comics, websites about websites and so on!

The yellow counter on the side tells me that at least about 4 people visit this blog almost every day. Please leave a comment, even a short one, when you do it! I will know that you came by and that this space means something to someone!

This blog in particular is thought to be created and seen with the browser Mozilla Firefox (see "softwares"), I'm sorry about Internet Explorer users because on it TH has a different, worst aspect that I don't know how to fix yet (photos and textes aren't displaced as well as with MF).

Some of the links bring to Italian websites, others to English ones. Sometimes, though, you can find the version of the same site in different languages, so don't be afraid! If you don't, but you're still interested about that topic, well... use Google, you know! \°o°/

Finally, an another big question: "Why's TH called True Heroes?"
Well, as a very little group of people among my dearest classmates might remember, TH was a short comic I made up in class after long, stressful hours of school. The project finished after 3 issues and 2 specials. I don't want to give it up though, so I hope I'll probably start it once again as soon as my will of drawing comes back along with my Godlike skillz. >_>

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XgH7EZt3LFM/Rpk_KuSw-WI/AAAAAAAAAI0/dcABJIEeD3s/s200/True+Heroes+01.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5087166707549665634" />For your own pleasure, here's the first original issue in Italian language (click on it to see it bigger in an another window).

HAVE FUN!

"True Heores" are all those ordinary people that, despite they don't have any really cool super powers, and just because of that, struggle to get through their lives and get 'em right. As I am just a high school boy, these TH in particular are students.

New York City - 07

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XgH7EZt3LFM/RpYto-Sw-UI/AAAAAAAAAIk/av_lHHrPQG0/s200/Flying+above+the+Alps.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5086303011101276482" />Day 07: Wednesday 30, May 2007
The day we said goodbye to Manhattan visiting the last things we had to see.
The day I left America, and came back in the Old Continent.

Well, we had already seen pretty much everything we had planned to. Only St.Patrice Cathedral and the New York Public Library were left, and Carnegie Hall was booked by a High School for a graduation ceremony. Completed in 1931, its name comes from the nickname for the state of New York: it is 449 m (1,472 ft)high and it has 102 stories. It is considered by the American Society of Civil Engineers one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. The aesthetic of the building is not as beautiful as the Chrysler's one (see picture above), but the view you can get from the observatory is quite impressive. It was a fortune that my mother knew about the City Pass which makes one save a lot of money - and of time, too: you get to pass about half of the lines, and they can get very long in NYC! Especially at the ESB...

The ESB stand right in the middle of Manhattan, so once you're on the top you can see everything: the Verrazzano and Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, the Flatiron and Chrysler buildings, the UN headquarters, Central Park and beyond.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XgH7EZt3LFM/RpP8QMIDKOI/AAAAAAAAAIM/DTlU8JztJ7g/s400/Manhattan.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5085685759294515426" />If you try to look on the lower streets and ceilings, seems like you are playing GTA2!

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XgH7EZt3LFM/RpUDMcIDKPI/AAAAAAAAAIU/057UxTvNgvk/s320/The+Natural+History+Museum.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5085974866428111090" />The American Museum of Natural History is right in front of Central Park. It contains thousands of statues and reproductions of animals, dinosaurs and ancient civilizations. There is also the Planetarium, a DeathStar-like structure with a cinema theater on the inside that shows the Meteors striking the Earth and the dance of the Galaxies.

Wanna have an idea what's the Museum like? watch "Night at the Museum" with Ben Stiller. Then forget it, 'cause it's totally different, inside and outside. But the movie's still fun.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XgH7EZt3LFM/RpUGncIDKQI/AAAAAAAAAIc/bXH7Ixmyupw/s320/Hard+Rock+Caf%C3%A9.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5085978628819462402" />For the last night we had to spend in NYC me and my parents decided to go have dinner at the Hard Rock Café, which is right in the middle of Times Square. The food is good, the music is good, the service is good. There is also a stage where sometimes bands give concerts, but no one was playing that night. Don't miss the Beatles' Collection hanged up the walls and the gift shop with the t-shirts! Yeah!

New York City - 05

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XgH7EZt3LFM/RpCqucIDKII/AAAAAAAAAHc/6CgB7Gl2zTE/s200/Wall+Street.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5084751694101948546" />Day 05: Monday 28, May 2007
The day I met Lady Liberty and had some good time with her. The day I understood with it meant to be an immigrant from the Old World in the US, and saw how many Italians arrived in NYC at the beginning of the 20th century. The night I went to the opera, and heard the Phantom's cry.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XgH7EZt3LFM/RpFNR8IDKJI/AAAAAAAAAHk/FAdAvN9aFIY/s400/The+Liberty+Statue.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5084930424871004306" />
Liberty Enlightening the World, this is the name given to the more commonly known Statue of Liberty by its creator, the French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi.

She surely is the most famous icon representing the United States - a symbol of freedom. Millions of immigrants have been welcomed by the sight of this statue in the past, and there she still stands with the tablet commemorating the Declaration of Independence in her left hand and the torch in the right one.

I saw her, she's real.
And she's beautiful.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XgH7EZt3LFM/RpKx0MIDKKI/AAAAAAAAAHs/XBJNjFp-idM/s200/Ellis+Island.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5085322439421012130" />Ellis Island was the place where immigrants were received once they had finally reached the US. Today there's the Immigration Museum, where you can see photographs of how examinations took place and who passed through there. This has been one of the most interesting visits during my staying, go see it.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XgH7EZt3LFM/RpK3JcIDKLI/AAAAAAAAAH0/3RV8Ic_H8h0/s320/The+Phantom+of+the+Opera+-+Howard+McGillin.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5085328302051371186" />Okay, I cheated. I didn't take this shot, in fact it comes from Google. But I dare you to try taking a picture in a dark theatre surrounded by the crowd with a digital camera!

Anyways, this is still part of the show that I've seen. The Phantom of the Opera is the longest running show in Broadway history, and there's a reason. It's good. The atmosphere is simly unique with the big chandelier and the actors constantly breaking the "fourth wall". I loved the scenographies of the Phantom's lair and everything else's in general, I couldn't believe how quickly and realistically they where able to move and act on them. And, of course, the music's good too. The singers that night had been wonderful, expecially in the main title song, which I can't get off my head.

I have to wait for when the CD with this cast will be available, because the the movie and the 1986 original London cast versions are different, and I don't like them.

New York City - 04

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XgH7EZt3LFM/Ro-hj8IDKFI/AAAAAAAAAHE/LJ3i8VVROOM/s200/Squirrel.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5084460143131961426" />Day 04: Sunday 27, May 2007
The day we finally went through with museums and stuff, visiting the Guggenheim and the MoMA.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XgH7EZt3LFM/Ro-kjMIDKGI/AAAAAAAAAHM/R8XX26maKCE/s320/Guggenheim+Museum.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5084463428781942882" />
The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is a relatively small museum in front of Central Park in which are collected modern art paintings and works. It is famous for its particular shape, which might remind the spiral of a shell in the inside (while on the outside it looks like... something).

In this building are exposed many works of Picasso, Kandinsky, Cézanne, Gauguin, Magritte, Matisse, Renoir, van Gogh, Pomodoro, Mondrian, Modigliani, Mirò and Fontana.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XgH7EZt3LFM/Ro-n08IDKHI/AAAAAAAAAHU/w621j_MbKtQ/s320/Umberto+Boccioni+-+Unique+Forms+of+Continuity+in+Space.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5084467032259504242" />Yet not satisfied, my parents decided to visit in the afternoon the Museum of Modern Art - or just MoMA, in which I found out that is conserved Boccioni's "Unique Forms of Continuity in Space", a sculpture famous in Italy for being chosen to rapresent our country on the 20 cents Euro coin. I must say that I liked the Guggey and the MoMa ways more than the Met - but something was still wrong. In fact, looking at many of these pictures I felt like: "Man, is this art? I mean, I can do it too! Maybe even better!". I have always thought that great artists were people with the uncommon ability to create amazing things through drawings or sculptures or music, but many of these so-called-artworks are just junk. I think that Marvel Comics artists should deserve to be a lot more famous and well considerated then these fools - for example, Fontana's cuts are a real mystery, and I'm talking about him 'cause he was Italian.

New York City - 03

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XgH7EZt3LFM/Roug_MIDKCI/AAAAAAAAAGs/0VhAYSW9c_k/s200/The+Met.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5083333611864926242" />
Day 03: Saturday 26, May 2007
The day we started to see visit some of the many museums this city has, and that reminded me why I hate so much this kind of places.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XgH7EZt3LFM/Ro6fDcIDKDI/AAAAAAAAAG0/OrHTaD5W7X0/s320/Amore+e+Psiche.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5084175910786246706" />The Metropolitan Museum, or "The Met", is one of the world's largest and most important art and history museums. It has many artworks from all over the world: Europe, Asia, Africa and America, of course. The weirdest thing was when I found out there's a room with artworks coming only from Brescia, my hometown. Too bad I don't feel good whenever I visit museum, it's something that makes me sad, seeing so many good things just gathered together in some way. It's just my thing, I hate musuem. I dunno why, 'cause I love art, it's just that... I rather like hanging around then visiting musuems. But don't misunderstand me! The Met is great, go see it! \°__°/

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XgH7EZt3LFM/Ro6f0MIDKEI/AAAAAAAAAG8/dqGoeI7hXSc/s320/Central+Park.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5084176748304869442" />In the afternoon we had a nice walk in Central Park, which is a pretty cool place. It's full of people running half-naked, skating, and riding bicycles or horses. There are also a small amusement park and pools in which kids play with little electric toy boats. I also loved to see that the park has a big variety of animals, expecially squirrels, which are a rarity in my country.

A suggestion for whoever goes visit Manhattan: try Virgil's BBQ, it has great food. And, following the true Southern US style, order bbq meat or catfish and sweet tea. Oh yeah.
